Community Supports

Community Support Program

The Community Support program provides services to individuals with disabilities who live independently in the community. Some people need support to buy groceries, see the doctor, see the dentist or to create and maintain a financial budget. They still live on their own and only need support for certain things. The Community Support Program also offers group activities like the ones listed below.
Cooking Group

Group Description:

Cooking group is centered on teaching participants the skills needed to be able to independently prepare dishes in their home. Members are given the opportunity to provide ideas for simple recipes they have always wanted to learn to make and through group participation clients prepare meals on a weekly basis. Members are taught aspects of food safety, use of fresh vs. processed foods and information pertaining to nutrition as outlined by the Canada Food Guide.

Time/Location/Frequency of Program:

Wednesday 3:00pm – 6:00pm at CIC

Entry Criteria/Referral Process/Exit Criteria:

Entry criteria:

All persons served by Trail Association for Community Living(TACL) or Career Development Services(CDS) are able to attend peer group.

Referral Process/Population served:

All persons served by TACL and CDS are able to be referred to group, an internal referral form is completed and given to the Group facilitator, a copy is stored in the critical information binder

Exit Criteria:

Any person who chooses to no longer attend group, has the right to do so and no follow-up is necessary

Population Served:

Participants over the age of 19 who are interested in building their cooking skills and developing the ability to cook simple recipes independently.

Community Inclusion Centre

Self Advocacy/Life Skills & Cultural Diversity Group
This Group is held Fridays upstairs at the Trail Association Activity Centre:

Life Skills & Cultural Diversity Group is from 1:00pm - 4:00pm

The main purpose of this group is to educate individuals on local resources, and increase life skills all within an inclusive environment. We strive to enhance the persons served by increasing their opportunities to learn everything from self-care to Cultural diversity in celebrating those differences and creating a culture of inclusion and acceptance among their community and activities that all allow for more skill development to increase independence.

Self-Advocacy Meeting is every 2 months (last Friday of month) from 4:00pm - 7:00pm

This group is open to all self-advocates and is a forum to discuss each individual's ability to effectively communicate, convey, negotiate or assert his or her own interests, desires, needs and rights. We will have guest speakers and workshops.

*Participants will be notified if there is a change in location

Social Rec Group
Group Description:

Social Recreation group is a place where men and women are able to socialize and have fun. In this group participants have the opportunity to partake in community outings in which they may not have been able to without support. Some activities may include tours of the local fire hall or police station, attending sporting events, dinner and a movie or one of many fun outdoor activities in the summer.

Time/Location/Frequency of Program:

Thursday 12:30pm - 5:30pm at CIC*

*Time, day and location may vary depending on planned activity

Participants over the age of 19 who are interested in participating in socializing while also participating in fun community activities.

Settings:

Community Inclusion Centre, various community locations

Peer Group

Group Description:

Peer group is a weekly community inclusion group ran by Career Development Services. The main purpose of Peer group is to educate individuals on local resources, and increase life skills all within an inclusive environment. We strive to enhance the persons served by increasing their opportunities to local resources, local speakers and activities that all allow for more skill development to increase independence.

Time/Settings/Frequency of Program:

  • Every Tuesday
  • From 3:00 – 5:00 pm
  • Most often at the Community Inclusion Centre located at 1458 Bay Ave, in Trail BC, as well as a multiple of locations throughout the greater Trail area.

Theater Group

Group Description: Theatre group is a showcase of the artistic talents of the CLBC Community. With the assistance of   staff and volunteers participants develop their imagination, mime and theatrical skills. Scripts for productions are written with the individuals acting in mind.

Time/Settings/Frequency of Program:  

  • Every Tuesday
  • From 1:00 – 3:00 pm
  • Trail Association Activity Centre(upstairs),1769 Riverside Avenue  Trail
